Wild About Books Wednesday- Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee

Today I am once again linking up with Scarlett over at Speech is Sweet to bring you Wild About Books Wednesday!

This week's book is Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen.  If you have not yet read any of the books in the Mr. Magee series, you have been missing out.  They are so much fun!  Here is the description of this book from the Author's website:

After packing a huge lunch, Mr. Magee and his little dog, Dee set off in their boat for a relaxing day on the water.  But what begins as a fun day in the sun turns into a bumpy ride, when one bored little whale swims up to give their boat a friendly nudge hello.  Soon the brave sailors that were once floating on the sea find themselves high above it, heading straight for a tree!

I thought the whale in this book was really cute so I went pinteresting in search of a little craft to "speechify" and came up with this little disaster piece of cleverness.  Apologies for the photo quality-  I missed optimum daylight and am still suffering from summeritis.

I hope that kind of looks like a whale!  Anyway, if you choose to try it here are the steps I took.

First, I collected some blue paint, white paper, a paintbrush, and a sharpie pen.
Next, I painted my right hand blue.

Then, I painted on a little tail and used the sharpie pen to draw an eye and a mouth.

Next, I painted some extra streams of water shooting out of the blow hole.

Once the paint dried a bit, I wrote the names of sea creatures on each stream.  If you wanted to use this for articulation, you could have the student write or draw pictures of words containing his/her sound.  It might also be fun to summarize or retell the store on this page.

What would you do with this book in your speech room?
